Deliverable: 4

Scenario

The Director of the Information Technology received notice from the Board of Directors that they are interested in a new Data Center. The Board has decided on dedicating a section of the West wing of the building for the data center. They are requesting a high-level design depicting a Data Center floor plan that will include a basic hardware rack layout as well as physical access and security controls.

The Director of Information Technology selected you to create a Visio design showing the floorplan layout of the new data center which includes a 42u hardware rack layout and physical access and security controls.

The Board members request a summary explaining the Data Center design, with an evaluation of Green initiatives that will be used in the Data Center.

Instructions

Create a Visio design showing the floorplan layout of the new data center which includes a 42u hardware rack layout and physical access and security controls. Provide a summary to explain your design and an evaluation of Green Initiatives.

1. Create a Data Center floor plan design with space to host 3 offices, rack space, heating and cooling space and show physical access and security controls.

2. Using best practices for installing hardware racks, design one full 42u rack layout that include the following:

3. At least five 2u servers

4. At least one 4u storage unit

5. At least one network switch

6. At least one PDU

7. At least one UPS

8. Write a 2-3 pages summary in Word to explain the decisions of your data center layout. Include an evaluation of Green initiatives that will be used for the data center.

9.
Be sure to write with professional language and use proper spelling/grammar.

Answer:

The data center will house multiple 42U racks. These racks are standardized frames or enclosures for mounting multiple equipment modules. Each module has a height of 1.75 inches (1U) and a 42U rack can accommodate 42 such modules. The racks will be arranged in rows with sufficient space between them for cooling and maintenance. The layout will also consider power distribution, cable management, and cooling systems.

Description of Physical Access:

The data center will have a single point of control access. This entry point will be monitored and secured with biometric success controls to ensure only authorized personnel can enter. Inside the data center. Different areas may have different access levels, depending on the sensitivity of the equipment housed.

Security Controls:

In addition to biometric access controls, the data center will also have CCTV surveillance to monitor all areas. Fire suppression system will be installed to protect the equipment in case of fire. The data center will also have a security alarm system to alert, in case of any security bridges.

In symbolic notation, P(A|B), is read as “the probability of event A happening given that event B already occurred”.
